Iran’s Mardani wins bronze at Wuxi 2017 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series

Iranian taekwondo practitioner Sajjad Mardani has earned a bronze medal at the Wuxi 2017 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series in China.

The 29-year-old Iranian athlete bagged the medal in the senior male over 80-kilogram weight division after triumphing over Croatia’s Vedran Golec 9-4 in the final contest of the category on Saturday.

The young Iranian sportsman overpowered South Korean opponent Seung-Hwan Lee 12-11 in his first competition, before downing Azerbaijani rival Radik Isaev 11-9 in the second.

Mardani lost his third contest against Russian taekwondo athlete Roman Kuznetsov, and was was relegated to the repechage round. 

The Wuxi 2017 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series kicked off on December 30, and will run through January 27, 2018.
