US regime change plan will never work for Iran: Analyst

‘US regime change plans won’t work for Iran’

US President Donald Trump and his administration’s plan of regime change in Iran is an “unattainable” goal, says an American analyst, noting that Washington’s economic pressure on the Islamic Republic will not push Iranians back.

Brian Becker, with the A.N.S.W.E.R Coalition, made the remarks in an interview with Press TV about the recently imposed US sanctions against Tehran.

Last week, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on five Iranian companies it alleges are tied to the Islamic Republic’s development of ballistic missiles.

The Trump administration linked the measure to the recent wave of deadly unrest that has hit some parts of Iran, though the US has targeted Tehran’s missile program in the past too for other unsubstantiated reasons.

Washington had claimed in the past that Iran’s missile program was in breach of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed Tehran’s nuclear deal with the P5+1 states.

Now, the Treasury Department says it is imposing sanctions over the riots which began last week and were praised by Trump and other officials of his administration.

“They are trying to sabotage and end US participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)” he said, referring to a landmark nuclear deal between Iran and six world powers—the US, the UK, France, China, Russia and Germany—in 2015.

Becker noted that the Trump administration’s new sanctions against Iran were in breach of both “the spirit and the letter” of the JCPOA, which states that the US has an obligation “to be ending sanctions not imposing new sanctions.”

The economic pressure was part of a broad confrontation that Washington had put together for the ultimate purpose of “regime change” in Iran, the analyst argued.

“I believed the US plans in this regards have been absolute fantasy. It will not happen, the people of Iran, having experience the coup de tat of 1953 and then having endured 26 years of life under the Shah of Iran, who functioned as a stooge of the United States, will never ever allow their country and their people to be placed in that kind of colonial subjugation once again,” Becker asserted.

The Islamic Republic has said it will spare no effort to meet its national security needs, and does not allow any party to intervene in the imperative.
