Iranian tireur claims silver at World Championship of Savate French Boxing 2017

Iranian tireur Jamshid Givehchi has displayed great combat skills during the World Championship of Savate French Boxing 2017, and scooped a silver medal at the international tournament.

On Saturday night, Givehchi conceded defeat to his French opponent Romain Falendry in the minus 85-kilogram weight category of the competitions at the Petit Palais des Sports of the southern French city of Toulouse, and finished as vice champion, the Islamic Republic of Iran Federation of Sports Associations reported.

The World Championship of Savate French Boxing 2017 was held on December 16. Eight bouts, including six men's and two women's, were fought, of which three were world finals.

Savate, also known as boxe française or French boxing, is a French martial art that uses hands and feet as weapons combining elements of western boxing with graceful kicking techniques.

Only foot kicks are allowed unlike some systems such as Muay Thai, Silat and Yaw-Yan, which allow the use of the knees or shins.

A male practitioner of savate is called a tireur, while a female is called a tireuse.
