Iran’s futsal team moves up one spot in latest AMF rankings, stays Asia’s best

The Iran men’s national futsal team has climbed up one position in the latest Asociación Mundial de Futsal (AMF) rankings to claim the fifth slot in the world’s overall standings, and upheld its place as Asia’s best outfit.

According to the latest classification published by the AMF, which is the governing body of futsal, the Iranian squad collected 1,625 points.

Kazakhstan kept the ninth slot in the latest AMF rankings with 1,488 points. The Central Asians are followed by Japan’s Samurai Five and the Small Table of Thailand, who have claimed the 15th and 17th places respectively with 1,355 and 1,310 points.

The Brazil national futsal team, nicknamed Canarinho (Little Canary), is the top-ranked futsal team in the world rankings with 1,931 points. Spaniards notched up 1,878 points to sit in the second position, while third-placed Russians earned 1,740 points. Argentina accumulated 1,683 points to stand fourth.

On Wednesday, the Iran men's national futsal team finished its campaign at the Isfahan International Futsal Tournament on a high note, and thrashed the Russian side 4-0 in the title challenge.

The Isfahan International Futsal Tournament started on December 3, and finished on December 6, 2017.

Iran was held to a 3-3 draw against Azerbaijan in its opening match, and edged past Kazakhstan 2-1 in its second fixture.

The Iran men's national futsal team won the title with seven points, followed by Russia (four points). Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan got two points each.
