Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has pardoned or commuted the sentences of a number of Iranian inmates.

Ayatollah Khamenei on Tuesday agreed to pardon or reduce the sentences of 1,007 eligible inmates convicted by the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces.

The Leader’s decision came in response to a letter from Iran's Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani asking for clemency regarding eligible convicts on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammad and Imam Jafar Sadiq (AS), the Sixth Shia Imam.

The 17th day of the lunar calendar month of Rabi al-Awwal coincides with the birth anniversaries of the Prophet of Islam and Imam Jafar Sadiq. This year, it falls on Wednesday, December 5.
