UN rights chief slams plight of refugees in Libya

The United Nations Human Rights Commission has slammed the European Union’s support for the Libyan coast guard in intercepting and returning refugees to Libya. The commission says the policy leads to the arbitrary and indefinite detention of refugees in inhuman conditions. Humanitarian organizations have strongly criticized Italy for striking a deal with an unreliable UN-backed Libyan government.
