US using JCPOA as leverage to stop Iran’s defense program: Analyst
An analyst believes that the United States is seeking to use the issue of Iran’s compliance with its nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with world powers as a leverage to prevent the Islamic Republic from strengthening its defense capabilities.
“In fact the tactics make it clear that what they are on about now is quite apart from any issue of compliance and it is quite clear there is complete compliance with very strong verification standards. What they are on about is basically trying to walk away from the deal, or if you like, renegotiate the arrangement in order to basically force Iran to abandon, to repudiate its sovereign right to develop conventional defense capability, especially when it comes to missile technology,” Barry Grossman told Press TV in an interview on Friday.
“So what they are on about is essentially trying to deprive Iran of the benefits of this unprecedented deal... and to compel Iran to adopt a foreign policy that reflects US, UK, Israeli and KSA priorities in the region and that of course is not going to happen,” he added.
