Egypt battles remaining landmines from World War II

Egypt military deminers conduct operations

Egypt is waging a war against a hidden enemy: landmines. Egyptian military deminers conduct operations near the Mediterranean coastal road where the World War II Battle of El Alamein took place. El Alamein is a town located 240 kilometers northwest of the country’s capital Cairo. A vast amount of unexploded ordnances still remain in the area, 75 years later and they pose a major risk to the population living nearby.
