USA coach Bruce Arena resigns after World Cup failure

Team USA head coach Bruce Arena has stepped down after failing to take his team to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Finals in Russia.

Arena had replaced Yorgen Klinsmann after the USA lost the first two matches of the final qualifying round for the 2018 World Cup. The Americans were humiliated 2-1 by Trinidad and Tobago in their last encounter for the tournament's qualifiers.

America only needed a draw in their final CONCACAF qualifier or for Panama or Honduras to lose, to finish 4th and clinch a spot in the World Cup playoffs. This is the first time team USA have failed to qualify for the World Cup since 1986.
