Iran extends winning streak at FIFA U-17 World Cup with Costa Rica defeat

Iran national under-17 football team, more commonly known as Nojavanan, has put an impressive end to its campaign at the preliminary round of the 2017 the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) U-17 World Cup, and clinched a comfortable win to claim the top spot in its group.

On Friday, the Persians, who had beaten Guinea 3-1 and Germany 4-0 earlier in Group C, defeated Costa Rica 3-0 in its last group stage encounter at the multi-purpose Fatorda Stadium, officially known as the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, in the Indian city of Margao. 

Captain Mohammad Ghobeishavi opened the scoring in the 25th minute from the penalty spot.

Taha Shariati extended Iran’s lead four minutes later with a penalty finish of his own.

Substitute Mohammad Sardari made it 3-0 just three minutes before the final whistle.

Iran national under-17 football team will play Group F third-placed team on Tuesday.
