Head coach of Iran's national football team Carlos Queiroz (C)

The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) has nominated head coach of Iran's national football team Carlos Queiroz for the World’s Best National Coach award.

IFFHS, an organization that chronicles the history and records of association football, will issue awards to best male and female football figures starting from November 15.

The list includes Belgian football manager Hugo Broos, who currently manages the Cameroon national football team, nicknamed in French Les Lions Indomptables (The Indomitable Lions or Untameable Lions), and led the team to victory in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Head coach of the Germany national team Joachim Löw, Spanish football coach and the current manager of the Belgium national team, Roberto Martínez Montoliú, the current manager of the Brazil national team, Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, commonly known as Tite, Vahid Halilhodžić (Japan) as well as Julen Lopetegui (Spain) are other candidates.

On June 12, the Iran national football team defeated Uzbekistan 2-0 at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium, and became the first Asian team - and the third squad after Brazil and hosts Russia - to secure its place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Iranian professional footballer Sardar Azmoun opened the scoring for the host team in the 23rd minute.

Mehdi Taremi found the back of the net from inside the area in the 88th minute, and finished off the White Wolves.

This is the second time in a row that Team Melli has won the ticket for the FIFA World Cup finals under the tutelage of its 64-year-old Portuguese head coach.
