Iranian Greco-Roman team wins crown in Junior Wrestling World Championships

The Iranian junior national Greco-Roman wrestling team has produced splendid performances at the Junior Wrestling World Championships in Finland, and picked up the trophy at the conclusion of the prestigious international sports event.

The Iranian wrestlers finished first and won their first ever team title in Junior Wrestling World Championships, having secured three gold medals through Pouya Soulat Dadmarz, Keramat Morad Abdevali and Amin Kaviyaninejad in the 50-kilogram, 60-kilogram and 66-kilogram weight categories respectively.

Arman Alizadeh Abdevali clinched the 84-kilogram silver, and Amin Mirzazadeh finished third in the 120-kilogram section to settle for the bronze medal. The Iranians won the top honor with 58 points.

Athletes from Russia garnered one gold, one silver and three bronze medals, and ranked second with 53 points. They were followed by Turks who racked up 38 points, having collected one gold and one bronze medals.

The United States landed in the fourth position with one gold and one silver medals and 29 points.

On Friday, Amin Kaviyaninejad downed his Armenian opponent Malkhas Amoyan 3-3 fall in the final round of the 66-kilogram weight category, and clinched the gold medal.

In the 84-kilogram division, Arman Alizadeh Abdevali earned a silver medal for Iran after his Russian opponent Aleksandr Komarov downed him 9-0 by technical fall in the final challenge.

Amin Mirzazadeh also triumphed over his Russian rival Georgi Gadzhinov 8-0 by technical fall in the repechage round of the 120-kilogram weight class, and won the bronze medal.

Earlier in the tournament, Pouya Soulat Dadmarz and  Keramat Morad Abdevali had won two gold medals for the Islamic Republic of Iran in the 50-kilogram and 60-kilogram weight categories.

The Junior Wrestling World Championships began in Tampere, Finland, on August 1, and finished on August 6, 2017.
