Iranian judokas claim top spot in CSIT World Sports Games

Iranian judo practitioners are crowned at the fifth edition of CSIT World Sports Games in Latvia.

Iranian judo practitioners have put on outstanding displays at the fifth edition of Confédération Sportive Internationale Travailliste et Amateur (CSIT) World Sports Games in Latvia, and claimed the championship in the multinational and multi-sport event.

On Thursday, Qasem Nourizadeh shone in the 66-kilogram weight class in the Latvian capital city of Riga, and scooped the top honor.

He prevailed over a Finnish opponent in his first contest, before downing a representative from France in the next.

Nourizadeh then overwhelmed a Latvian competitor and booked the ticket for the final showdown, where he conquered an English contestant and won the gold medal.

Additionally, Kayvan Bahrami emerged victorious over his opponents in the 60-kilogram weight division encounters, and collected another gold medal for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Elias Aliakbari faced a rival from Tunisia in the final contest of the 81-kilogram weight category, where he conceded a defeat and received the silver medal.

Iranian judokas Hamed Rashidi and Hamid Sajjadifar also won the gold medals in the minus 90-kilogram and over 100-kilogram classes.

Mohsen Hadiei earned a bronze medal in the over 100-kilogram weight division.

Moreover, Masoud Khanahmadlou and Mojtaba Nikbin outmuscled their opponents in the minus 73-kilofram and minus 100-kilogram sections, and got two gold medals.

The fifth edition of the CSIT World Sports Games kicked off in Riga, Latvia, on June 13 and will run through June 18, 2017.
