Gaza Strip students build solar-powered car to help battle fuel crisis

The car was built by two engineering students in the Gaza Strip with the hope that such a vehicle would help counter the fuel and electricity shortages facing the territory.

Palestinian students have developed a solar-powered car to tackle the region’s energy deficiency.

Khaled Bardawill and Jamal Al-Miqaty who are engineering students from Gaza’s al-Azhar University built the solar car from scratch as a final exam project.

The 23-year-old are now looking for a way to convert electric cars to vehicles that run on solar power since Gaza is short on electricity and fuel.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that the Gaza Strip receives less than half of its electricity needs. This causes daily blackouts in the region.
