Press TV has conducted an interview with Saeb Shaath, author and Middle East expert from Belfast, about the nonstop airstrikes by Saudi Arabia on Yemen despite recent international calls for respecting humanitarian situation in the impoverished country.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: Not only have the Saudis not halted their attacks on Yemen as of the past week or so they've been increasing their deadly attacks leaving an even greater trail of death and destruction talk to us more about the situation.

Shaath: The Saudi regime obviously is ignoring all the calls directed to it to abide by their obligations under the international humanitarian law. They should take all the necessary actions to protect the Yemeni people and the civilian infrastructures, according to that international law. No, the Saudis are not heeding such calls at all. They are actually doing the opposite of that. As you mentioned lately the attacks on hospitals, the killing and the massacres of the civilians, children and the targeting of what left of the Yemeni infrastructures and ignoring any international opinion on that since they have the protection and the backing and the participation of the United States of America in their war.

The Saudis are intensifying their attacks on the Yemenis. And specifically notice after the UN-brokered peace talks in Kuwait collapsed; their backed delegation, which is Hadi’s delegation, failed with all the power given to them with the Saudis and support of the military attacks to impose any conditions of the Yemeni national delegations between the Houthis and the National Congress of Yemen and other political parties to sign even one political concession to them. And they left and the talks were suspended on the 6th of August. That is one of the points what more anger the Saudis and make them ... face-to-face with their political and military defeat in Yemen.

The holding of the Yemeni parliament session a couple of days ago the parliament took place its session in Sana’a and that clearly tell them through this is elected parliament and give legitimacy to the lately formed political Supreme Council between the Houthis and Saleh to run the ... of Yemen. And that the parliament since it is elected, it has obviously the all legitimacy in Yemen and it can withdraw any legitimacy Hadi claims he has. And it can even cancel the deal what you call it the [Persian] Gulf Deal, the Saudis brokered, which brought Hadi to power, according to that after the resignation of Ali Saleh in the face of the revolution in Yemen.

So, this fast political move shows the Houthis and the revolutionary party in Yemen consolidating their political will all over Yemen nearly and they can use these political tools of running the affairs of Yemen. And the other things, they moved and intensified as well their defense of human and attacking the provinces of the Najran and Jizan and Asir, which they are Yemeni. And they will impose all the Saudis at least to talk to them through negotiation with the enemy face-to-face about stopping these attacks and give up their failing war on Yemen. So, that is why the Saudis are losing patience and attacking everywhere and causing mayhem in Yemen.
