I failed just few seconds and slumped to world giants: Iran rower
Iranian female rower Mahsa Javar says she lost out her contest at the rowing events of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to globally distinguished athletes with just a few seconds' delay.
"It was a good competition. Even though I could not progress to the quarterfinal round, I am content with my performance," Javar said.
"I had the chance to vie against representatives from dominant rowing nations. I well knew that Olympics is a major and significant event, and did my utmost."
The female Iranian rower participated in the women’s single sculls competitions at the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon in Copacabana on Monday.
She clocked eight minutes and 6.57 seconds to finish third and fail to book her spot in the quarterfinals.
Algerian contestant Amina Rouba was the fastest qualifier with a time of 8:04.21. Felice Chow, a representative from Trinidad and Tobago, claimed the second spot with 8:04.91.
Javar will be in action in the semifinal E/F round of the rowing competitions at the Rio Olympics on Tuesday for a place in the 25th-32nd classification.
She will face rowers from the Bahamas, Peru, Chinese Taipei, Togo, Kazakhstan, Thailand and Indonesia.
