Iran envoy: US, UK backing Israel nuclear program
Iran’s ambassador to the UN says Israel is the only obstacle to the creation of a nuclear-free Middle East. Gholamhossein Dehghani made the comment in an address to the Nuclear Disarmament Commission of the UN General Assembly. He expressed Iran’s grave concern over the current developments in the nuclear disarmament domain. Dehghani said no tangible progress has been made in the implementation of denuclearization commitments. Iran’s deputy UN representative also lashed out at the US and Britain for opposing the final document of last year’s NPT Review Conference. He said their opposition was simply aimed at supporting Tel Aviv’s nuclear program. Dehghani added that Washington’s non-compliance with its nuclear disarmament obligations has exposed the world to the threat of a new nuclear arms race.
