The Islamic Republic of Iran will host the fourth edition of Asian Junior Kabaddi Championship for Boys and Girls in the northwestern city of Urmia later this month.
The Kabaddi Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran will organize the four-day-long continental sports event, and has already sent out invitations to a number of Asian federations to take part in the tournament.
While Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Pakistan, Thailand and Turkmenistan have already confirmed their presence in both the boys and girls sections of the championship, several other Asian countries are mulling attendance at the event.
The fourth edition of Asian Junior Kabaddi Championship for Boys and Girls will start in Urmia’s 6,000-seater Ghadir sports hall on April 13, and will finish on April 16.
National Iranian boys’ kabaddi team finished runner-up at the end the third edition of Asian Junior Kabaddi Championship in Malaysia in October 2011. The Iranian girls’ outfit claimed the third place.
Kabaddi is the national game of Bangladesh and also the state game of the Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Punjab.
India is the most successful team on the world stage, having won every World Cup and Asian Games title so far, in both men's and women's categories.
