Russia confirms halt to airstrikes in Syria
The Russia Defense Ministry says it has halted airstrikes in Syria in accordance with a ceasefire agreement brokered by Moscow and Washington.
The Russian General Staff head Lieutenant General Sergei Rudskoi said warplanes fully suspended the bombing campaign in the green zone which includes the areas where foreign-backed militants requested the ceasefire. Rudskoi said that 17 anti-Syria armed groups have promised to abide by the truce. The comments came hours after the ceasefire went into effect.
