Magic pencils grow into vegetables, herbs

The plantable pencils from Sprout World grow into herb, vegetable and flowering plants.

An eco-friendly Danish company has come up with a new product - plantable pencils, as a way of highlighting the concept of sustainability.

Sprout pencils were created by a Danish company with the same name. The pencils are fitted with a small bio-degradable capsule at the end that contains seeds.

You can choose between ten different varieties of seeds , everything from mint to sage, rosemary, and thyme—and with a simple set of instructions for sowing and composting, you'll be picking tasty herbs in no time.

Once the pencil is sharpened to a stub, it can be planted in the soil instead of being thrown away. The company has other products such as stickers and greeting cards.

The idea was first developed by students at the MIT University in the United States who were working on sustainable office product.
