UK house prices grow in December

A new report says average house prices across the UK grew in December.

A new report says average house prices in the UK grew in December.

According to the report by the Nationwide Building Society, the prices rose 0.8% in December compared with 0.1% in previous month.

Meanwhile, the overall 2015 house prices rose by 4.5%, with the average price of a property now standing at £196,999.

In another report released by the Land Registry for England and Wales the prices rose by 5.6% in the year to November.

The Nationwide Building Society also noted that London remained the strongest performing region for the fifth year running with average prices up 12% compared with a year ago.

"Further healthy gains in employment and rising wages are likely to bolster buyer sentiment, while borrowing costs are expected to rise only gradually. However, the main concern is that construction activity will lag behind strengthening demand, putting upward pressure on house prices and eventually reducing affordability," Nationwide's chief economist, Robert Gardner said.
