Bahraini protesters call for release of all political prisoners

  1. Bahraini anti-government protesters rally in several villages across the kingdom calling for the release of all political prisoners. They also condemned the regime’s harsh crackdown on dissidents. Manama has been suppressing the protesters since the beginning of a popular uprising in 2011.
  2. Yemen’s Ansarullah movement and allied army units have fired several rockets at Saudi military bases in the kingdom's Najran region. Earlier, Yemeni forces killed a number of Saudi troops in the Jizan region. The attacks come in response to Riyadh’s deadly war on Yemen.
  3. Syrian warplanes have targeted militants’ positions near the capital Damascus killing Jaysh al-Islam terrorist group's leader Zahran Alloush along with many of his top aides. The strikes which took place in the Eastern Ghouta region also killed scores of Ahrar al Sham terrorists.
  4. Iraqi officials hold Christmas celebrations in the capital Baghdad in a show of solidarity with Christian communities displaced by the Daesh terrorist group. An Iraqi lawmaker says Daesh terrorists have forced some 200-thousand Christians to leave their homes in Nineveh province.
  5. At least two refugees have drowned in the Mediterranean as hundreds were trying to reach the Spanish city of Ceuta from Morocco. A dozen refugees were also taken to the hospital for sustaining injuries. Nearly 300 asylum seekers attempted to get to Ceuta but Moroccan forces intercepted more than 120 of them.
  6. Anti-Muslim protesters storm a prayer hall on the French island of Corsica, vandalizing it and burning copies of Islam’s holy book the Quran. French Prime Minister Manuel Valls has condemned the attack as QUOTE an unacceptable profanation of a Muslim place of prayer.
  7. A suspected arson attack on a mosque in the U-S state of Texas causes damage to the mosque and a nearby pharmacy. Eighty firefighters rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire in southwest Houston. The cause of the fire remains unknown.
  8. A powerful tornado strikes the south-eastern U-S state of Alabama, leaving several residents injured in the city of Birmingham. The tornado caused significant material damage to the city. The US National Weather Service has issued flash flood warnings across the region.
