Lebanon’s resistance movement, Hezbollah, says its fighters have killed nine Takfiri terrorists including a militant commander in an attack near the border town of Arsal.

The Arabic-language al-Manar satellite television network said on Wednesday that Hezbollah fighters hit the convoy of al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front militants, who had been travelling on the outskirts of Arsal, which lies about 124 kilometers (77 miles) northeast of the capital, Beirut.

"The resistance (Hezbollah) fighters targeted the convoy of al-Nusra Front official Abu Firas al-Jubbeh... after carefully monitoring its movements," the report said.

Jubbeh along with three other terrorists was killed on the spot while the five other terrorists were shot dead as they tried to retrieve the bodies.

Clashes also broke out between the two sides, al-Manar said, adding that the Lebanese military also targeted al-Nusra positions in the area.

The development came over a week after al-Nusra released 16 Lebanese soldiers and police it had captured more than a year ago from Arsal. In exchange, the Lebanese government set free 13 militants, including Saja al-Dulaimi, the ex-wife of the so-called leader of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group Ibrahim al-Samarrai, also known as Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The Lebanese army has been, for months, carrying out operations around Arsal, where thousands of militants from al-Nusra Front, known for its terrorist activities in neighboring Syria, as well as members of Daesh are believed to be operating.

Hezbollah has also been involved in an anti-militant operation in the neighboring mountainous region of Qalamoun, retaking numerous positions from the al-Nusra and other militant groups.
