China imports 500,000 bpd of Iran oil

Iran sees its oil exports rising by 500,000 barrels per day by late November or early December.

Asian imports of Iranian oil in August rose by 10% from a year ago, with China accounting for half of the more than 1 million barrel per day of crude lifted, a new agency reports.

China imported 503,110 bpd of crude oil from Iran in the month, up 61.4% from a year earlier, Reuters said on Wednesday, citing government and tanker-tracking data.

Iran’s other biggest buyers – India, Japan and South Korea – bought less Iranian oil in August from a year before, with Japan’s purchase falling 11% to 179,243 bpd.

For the first eight months of 2015, Asian buyers took in almost 1.1 million bpd, down 6.1% from a year earlier, Reuters said.

Iran sees its oil exports rising by 500,000 barrels per day by late November or early December much sooner than some in the West expect when sanctions are lifted on the country.

Iran also expects to add 1 million barrels a day to its current exports by the spring of 2016, Director of investment at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Ali Kardor said last week.

The country plans to return to the pre-sanction sales levels in the shortest possible time when the restrictions are lifted.

A conference will be held in Tehran in the Iranian month of Aban which begins on Oct. 23 to unveil new oil contracts before a similar event in London in February 2016.

International companies are anxiously looking to Iran’s introduction of new oil projects and the terms under which the oil-rich country would award them for development.

On Wednesday, Managing Director of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Roknoddin Javadi did not rule out American energy companies attending the Tehran conference.

“There is not a clear picture yet about their coming. Nevertheless, the possibility of their presence is not out of question,” he said.

Javadi said there is no restriction to the participation of US companies in Iran’s energy projects. “Any cooperation with American companies within the framework of the existing contracts is possible.”

The official also said most of the big oil companies are re-opening their offices in Tehran.
