Iran taekwondo fighter grabs silver in Universiade
Iranian taekwondo fighter Mahdi Jamali Fashi has exhibited awe-inspiring displays at the 28th edition of Universiade in South Korea, and snatched a silver medal for the Islamic Republic.
On Tuesday, the 22-year-old Iranian athlete conceded defeat to his South Korean opponent Bae Jongbeom in the final contest of the men's individual poomsae at the Chosun University Gymnasium in South Korea's southwestern city of Gwangju to finish in the second place.
Indonesia's Maulana Haidir and Chinese taekwondo practitioner Wu Chuang shared the third sport and were awarded bronze medal each.
Taekwondo poomsae is a combination of basic actions and movements exercised with imaginary opponents.
The 2015 Summer Universiade, which marks the 28th edition of the sports event, opened in Gwangju on July 3, and will run until July 14.
More than 9,000 student athletes and officials from over 170 countries are taking part in the event.
Iranian athletes are in action across eight sports. They are competing in artistic gymnastics, soccer, volleyball, taekwondo, shooting, archery, athletics and rowing.
