Press TV has conducted an interview with Joe Lombardo, with the United National Antiwar Coalition from New York, to get his take on Saudi Arabia’s attempts to disrupt the flow of humanitarian aid to Yemen.
The following is a rough transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Why is Saudi Arabia preventing aid from reaching the people of Yemen?
Lombardo: Well, I think they are committing war crimes in Yemen. I think they are trying to starve the people to bring in a government that they want, not the government that the people of Yemen want. And unfortunately, the United States is supporting them in this effort.
Press TV: And Saudi Arabia started the war without a UN mandates, then why doesn’t the United Nations itself do anything about this?
Lombardo: It should obviously. There are violations of many international laws in Yemen that have been caused by Saudi Arabia. The United Nations more and more seems to just do the will of the United States these days. And the United States is on the side of Yemen bombing. The bombing from Saudi Arabia could not happen without the logistical support and weapons that have been provided by the United States and there are also US ships off coast of Yemen to ensure that no way does get through.
Press TV: And finally, which direction, do you think, this situation is heading with the current circumstances, and if the current trend continues?
Lombardo: I don’t think the Saudi Arabian bombing has had much effect on the military situation. It has a lot of effect on the people. They need water. They have been bombing their infrastructure. They need food and they need relief. And both that you mentioned from the Red Crescent that has taken off from Iran actually has two supporters from the United National Antiwar Coalition from the United States on it. We hope to be able to deliver that aid to the Yemeni people.
