India train bombing injures 25 near Kolkata city

A passenger injured in India's bomb blast is hospitalized in Koklata city on May 12, 2015.

At least 25 people have been injured after a bomb, allegedly carried by a passenger, went off inside a local passenger train near India’s eastern city of Kolkata, sources say.

The bomb exploded on the Sealdah-Krishnanagar train in an area some 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Kolkata early on Tuesday morning after the train left the Titagarh station.

The blast took place following an argument between suspected criminals, said Tushar Mandal, a local police officer.

"Witnesses said a group of people got on the train at Titagarh. There was altercation between them and later a bomb exploded. Police are investigating what happened," Mandal said.

The injured passengers, two of them in critical condition, were taken to nearby hospitals.

The man who was carrying the bomb was among the wounded. He has a criminal record.
