Pakistan, India relations sour after trade suspension

This is Kashmir, a disputed region and a key source of lingering border tensions and 3 wars between Pakistan and India.

Now the tensions have gone beyond sporadic border skirmishes.

New Dehli has suspended trade link with Islamabad at a disputed Kashmir border.

Indian soldiers have also arrested a Pakistani truck driver accusing him of smuggling drugs. Many in Pakistan believe the allegation is linked with a new anti-India policy.

Bilateral trade is very limited between Pakistan and India, while most of the commercial exchange takes place through informal channels in Dubai and smuggling networks along the border separating the two countries.

India considers Kashmir an integral part of its territory.

This has sacrificed the chance of conducting bilateral trade with Pakistan.

Analysts warn that militants might exploit the ongoing tension between Pakistan and India to their own benefit and carry out terrorist attacks like what they did in 2001 and 2008.
