NATO’s new mission is unfolding here in Afghanistan.

The mission has been codenamed as Operation Resolute Support and it involves over 12-thousand US and European forces.

Their job is to advise Afghan soldiers how to keep the Taliban at bay. On the streets, Afghans are happy to see their own forces at the helm now.

War-related episodes are still fresh in the minds of these people.

Some of them shared with us their good memories. But to others, it is hard to forget the sad events of the past 13 years.

Civilians here have paid a huge price.

Thousands and thousands of them were either killed or wounded mostly by the Taliban. NATO and Afghan forces’ air strikes also inflicted heavy casualties on Afghan civilians.

Most NATO forces went back home. But the Taliban have not gone.

They are still a big terrorist group here determined to target civilians to show their power and make their presence felt.

So it is not all over. People here know that they still have a long way to go to achieve peace. How would they do it? It is not an easy question to answer. But the people of this country are hopeful and resolute as they take major steps toward getting things back into their own hands.
