Lawrence Korb of Center for American Progress says that Israel uses US military equipment in its joint military exercises with the United States.
On Sunday, US and Israel air forces launched a joint military drill, in which an unrevealed number of F-15 and F-16 fighter jets from both countries are being used.
“The United States provides both Israel and Egypt with the military equipment,” Korb told the Press TV’s US Desk on Sunday.
“So a lot of the equipment that Israelis have is American-made equipment for example, the F-16,” he noted.
Korb said, “The United States has exercises with a lot of countries around the world that we have a relationship with. Israeli is one of the countries.”
“We also do exercises with the Japanese and the South Koreans,” he added.
The drill, which was designed to improve the interoperability and cooperation between the air forces of the two countries, was planned more than a year ago.
According to the Israeli defense forces, the military drill, codenamed Juniper Stallion 13, will last for 2 weeks.
Military cooperation between the two countries shows that Israel and the US have common security interests in the Middle East.
The US is Israel's biggest ally and international supporter. It supports Tel Aviv financially, militarily and diplomatically. Washington is providing billions of dollars of military aid to Tel Aviv annually.
During Fiscal Year 2013, the US is providing Israel with at least $8.5 million per day in military aid.
