Pro-Palestinian demonstrators
staged a rally outside the Century Plaza hotel in Los Angeles to protest against
a fundraiser for the Israeli army.
The protesters held Palestinian
flags and conducted a candle-lit funeral march along the
pavement.
They also carried placards that
called for an end to Israel’s “brutality” against Palestinians, especially those
holed up in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Demonstrators said the
fundraisers for the Israeli army help Tel Aviv continue “committing atrocities”
against the Palestinian people.
“The Palestinians of today are
the South Africans of yesterday,” said Shakeel Syed, a member of the steering
committee of the U.S. Campaign to End the Israeli
Occupation.
“I am here to admit that I was a
member of the terrorist organization,” said Miko Peled, an Israeli activist on
behalf of Palestinian rights, referring to his time in the Israeli army. “Yes,
they have tanks, commanders and fancy fundraisers and this hotel, but it is no
more than a brutal terrorist organization."
