Protesters hold up pictures of church-related sex abuse victims

A priest at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Ohio was arrested after showing up for what he thought would be a meeting to have sex with underage boys, authorities said.

Patrick Hughes, 56, posted an ad on an adult website that was “indicative of someone looking for sexual relations with children,” according to a release from the Franklin County sheriff’s office.

A detective with the Internet Crimes Against Children task force responded, leading Hughes to set up a meeting for a sexual encounter with whom he thought were two boys ages 9 and 14, the release said.

Hughes was arrested at 7 p.m. on Tuesday when he showed up at the meeting location, the release said.

He was charged with attempted rape, a second-degree felony, and attempted unlawful sexual contact with a minor, a fourth-degree felony. Dispatch
