Michel Chossudovsky, is the director of the Centre for Research on Globalization and is a Professor of economics at the University of Ottawa. He spoke to Press TV's U.S. Desk on Monday about U.S. intervention in Syria.
Chossudovsky said, "The Free Syria Army has been funded, equipped and armed by the western military alliance right from the beginning so this is nothing new."
Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United States have pledged millions of dollars at a “Friends of the Syrian People” conference in Istanbul at the weekend to pay salaries for rebels fighting to topple the Syrian government and provide communications equipment.
He continued, "These are mercenaries, they are paid mercenaries, they are supported by NATO, they are supported by Special Forces on the grounds and to say that we are going to pay them is actually stating what we've been doing for the last year since the outset of the insurgency in March of 2011."
