Over 1,000 hopefuls seek Iran presidency

Iran's Interior Ministry says one thousand candidates have so far registered for the country's June presidential election.

Interior Minister Sadeq Mahsouli said on Monday that while the official registration is scheduled to begin on May 5 more than one thousand candidates have already registered to run for president.

He went on to add that there is no "prominent figure" among the candidates.

Candidates have 4 days to officially register at the ministry's headquarters.

Following the official registration, the Guardians Council will evaluate the candidates and announce individuals meeting the council's approval on May 20th and 21st.
