The British ambassador to Tel Aviv says the US-engineered sanctions against Iran over its nuclear energy program have failed to have a major negative impact on the Islamic Republic’s economy.

On September 19, Matthew Gould warned the Israeli regime against a possible strike on Iran's nuclear energy facilities and called for the intensification of bans, which Washington and the EU declare to be meant to force Iran to abandon its nuclear energy program claimed to include a military component.

Iran has rejected the unfounded allegations, arguing that as a committed signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

Earlier in August, in an unusually forthright interview for Israel's Channel 10 news, Gould said international support for Israel among those in the political mainstream is eroding because of the entity’s aggressive settlement policies in the occupied Palestinian territories.
