UK govt. attacked over green policies
Danny Alexander, Chief Secretary of the UK Treasury, is preparing to challenge his Conservative party colleagues over green polices at a conference planned to be held by the Liberal Democrats in the coming month.
Alexander will criticize his coalition partners for blocking the support of renewable energy after they were urged by more than 200 green groups, businesses and various organizations to back the proposals.
The UK government ignored the businesses' letter a few days ago, which was aimed to make a strong contribution to growth and boost prosperity, and tried to force changes to employment law instead.
The Chief Secretary of the Treasury has condemned the decision made by the British government, saying it was done "without clear, robust evidence".
Alexander will also challenge "irresponsible calls for policies with no clear evidence of effectiveness" in an attempt to "decouple" his party from the Tories before the next election.
Moreover, Alexander may be attempting to break up the fragile alliance of the Coalition government, so that voters and supporters of the Liberal Democrats will recognize the party’s independence for the next general election due to take place in 2014.
