Tehran's interim Friday Prayers leader has lauded the good achievements of the latest round of talks between Iran and the six major world powers (P5+1) in Istanbul and said the West must lift sanctions against the country.
“The West must lift sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran so that the Iranian nation believes they (Western powers) do not seek to continue their enmity,” Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said, IRNA reported.
Highlighting the “good achievements” of the Istanbul talks, the senior cleric said, “They (the West) accepted that uranium enrichment is Iran’s right.”
The cleric noted that Western powers became confident that Iran is not after a military nuclear program after Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei issued a Fatwa (religious decree) clearly stating that the production of nuclear weapons is haram (forbidden by Islam).
Ayatollah Jannati further called on the West to build confidence with the Iranian nation.
“If they (Western powers) insist on sanctions [-against Iran] and then say they will negotiate with Iran, it is clear that such negotiations will be called off,” the cleric pointed out.
