Turkish party warns against Syria war

Head of Turkey's Felicity Party Mustafa Kamalak
The leader of Turkey's Felicity Party, Mustafa Kamalak, has warned that any military intervention in Syria will have grave consequences, Press TV reports.
Speaking at his party's meeting in Ankara on Saturday, Kamalak defended his visit to Syria at the helm of a delegation earlier in January.
"Respond with loud voice to those who ask 'why did you visited Syria?' by saying do you want the murder of 1.5 million Muslims in Syria under the pretext of removing Assad from power, just like what happened in Iraq under the pretext of removing Saddam?"
"Will you be happy if Syria becomes completely destroyed? … Do you want hundreds of thousands of children to be orphaned and hundreds of thousands of women to be widowed in Syria, like in Iraq? OK, if you will not accept these, what should be done? Of course a foreign intervention should be prevented," Kamalak added.
"Those who intervened in Iraq will intervene in Syria this time. Wherever the Westerners go, their purpose is plunder? History is the live witness to this," the party head said.
He also criticized the Turkish government's stance towards Syria.
"Those who had begun with the 'Zero-tension' policy, what did they do? Has any friend neighbor remained (for Turkey)? Turkey is becoming isolated and is pushing towards a catastrophe step by step," Kamalak argued.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March. Many people have lost their lives in the country over the past ten months. Damascus says over 2,000 security forces have been killed in the unrest.
The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters. Damascus, however, blames “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
