Following Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's major reforms, the Algerian Ministry of Interior and Local Collectivities has licensed ten new political parties among twenty which submitted their candidacy files for the upcoming legislations in May.
Interior Minister Mr. Ould Kablia, has announced that the ten newly authorized parties must hold their founding congress in order to get a final accreditation before the legislative elections which are taking place in May 12th 2012. The news was happily received by some new political parties such as The New Algeria Front.
On the other hand, those who received unfavorable decision from the Interior Ministry have been disappointed especially that they say they conformed to the laws and standards.
Nevertheless, some political analysts saw the move as a positive step calling it a real democracy and pluralism in the country
Observers say that the licenses which have been granted to10 new political parties is a big step towards pluralism in Algeria , however; discarding some other parties despite the fact that they say they are in conformity with the government's regulations is not logical.
It has been the first time since twelve years ago that some new political parties have been licensed in Algeria, a fact which was badly reflected in a weak turnout in polls in previous elections, but Algerian political leaders are hoping this time for a better participation in the midst of the Islamic awakening in the region.
