A US army base in southeastern Afghanistan has come under the attack of Taliban militants, Press TV reports.
According to Afghan officials, the incident took place in Paktika Province's Barmal district near Afghanistan's border with Pakistan.
District authorities say an armed group of Taliban militants attacked the base at around 9 am local time. At least four militants have reportedly been killed.
The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, US envoy to Afghanistan Marc Grossman has arrived in Kabul for talks with Afghan officials over the Taliban.
Washington's bid to start negotiations with the militant group comes a decade after the US-led war on Afghanistan was launched.
The US-led invasion of Afghanistan began in 2001 under the pretext of 'fighting terror,' toppling the Taliban, and establishing security in the country.
However, insecurity across Afghanistan continues to escalate despite the presence of tens of thousands of foreign troops in the country.
