A member of Iran Majlis (parliament) women's fraction says the West uses women's rights as a tool to mount pressure on the independent countries.
In a meeting with Abdul Kadir Karding, head of the Indonesian parliament's commission on religion, social affairs, and women's empowerment, in Tehran on Sunday, Fatemeh Alia said Western countries' claims to support women's rights are just a hoax
“The women's rights will only be realized within the framework of Islamic teachings,” Fars News Agency quoted her as saying.
The lawmaker went on to say that social progress hinges on healthy families, adding, “[Iran] Majlis has so far passed important laws to promote the social status of [the Iranian] women.”
Alia also said that the ongoing developments in the Islamic world and popular uprisings in Muslim countries have stemmed from those nations' justice and Islam-seeking spirit.
“Such uprisings will undoubtedly…promote the role and position of the Muslim world in international relations,” she added.
The Indonesian lawmaker, for his part, pointed to measures taken by Iran to defend women's rights and said that the realities of the Iranian society were very different from what was depicted by the West's negative propaganda against the Islamic Republic.
Karding stated that the West's negative propaganda against Iran was futile as Tehran has a very important position in the Muslim world and the Middle East region.
