Three people have been killed and six others have been injured in a US assassination drone attack in the southern Yemeni province of Abyan, a government official says.
The Yemeni official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said on Thursday that the unauthorized aerial attack targeted the village of Shaqra in Abyan, AFP reported.
Local residents have reported sounds of gunfire and explosions in nearby areas over the past few days.
There have been clashes between the US-backed Yemeni regime troops and militants allegedly linked to the shadowy al-Qaeda group in Abyan since May.
The Yemeni government has repeatedly denied US involvement in the clashes, claiming that Washington only provides “logistical support.”
On Wednesday, Yemeni regime forces killed three militants and injured six others in Shaqra, while three militants were also reported killed and dozens wounded in the southern city of Zinjibar.
