Palestinian baby born after mother’s death dies

A Palestinian baby who was born after her mother was killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza, has also died.

The premature baby girl was born in an emergency Caesarean operation after her mother was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Sunday.

The 23-year old mother, Shayma al-Sheikh Qanan, was eight months pregnant but died in an Israeli air strike in the central Gaza Strip town of Deir al-Balah.

Having survived the Israeli onslaught at first, the girl, named Shayma after her mother, also died after three days on Tuesday.

So far, at least 1,262 people have been killed and thousands of others injured in the Israeli regime’s military attacks on the coastal sliver.

At least two Gazan children were killed in the latest Israeli attacks. One of them, an 11-year-old handicapped girl, was killed when Gaza City was shelled. The second girl was 16.

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) said in a summary that 239 children have been killed so far in three weeks of missile strikes and artillery shelling against the Gaza Strip.

The fatalities included 157 boys and 82 girls, all aged between three months and 17 years. According to the UN body, there were 166 children aged 12 or younger among the children killed.

The Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, has been launching retaliatory attacks against Israel. Tel Aviv confirms 53 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza war, but Hamas puts the number at around 100.
