A member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) says Israel should drop any unilateral move to set permanent borders for the West Bank or face a “new conflict.”

Hanan Ashrawi said unilateral moves by the Tel Aviv regime to set permanent borders for the occupied West Bank and bypass further negotiations will only “form the basis for a new conflict.”

“We don’t believe unilateral readjustment of borders or crossing points is a solution,” Ashrawi told the Bloomberg.

“It will only create a reality that will backfire in the future.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier said he was examining the option of unilateral moves, after talks with the Palestinian Authority collapsed in April.

He said Israel was considering various proposals to disengage from sections of the West Bank that are heavily populated by Palestinians.

On April 23, the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas and the PLO, which includes the Fatah, reached a reconciliation deal to resolve their differences.

The Israeli regime reacted to the unity deal by canceling the so-called peace talks with the Palestinian Authority and threatening sanctions against it.

Under the deal, Hamas and Fatah are to form a Palestinian unity government and hold national elections within six months.
