World-famous Iranian actress Leila Hatami has been selected to serve at the jury panel of the 2014 edition of Cannes International Film Festival.
Hatami is to collaborate with Sofia Coppola (American director), Willem Dafoe (American actor), Carole Bouquet (French actress) and Gael Garcia Bernal (Mexican filmmaker) at the jury panel of the Competitive section of this year’s festival.
Other jury members are South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon and Danish director and producer Nicolas Winding Refn.
The organizers of the year’s edition of Cannes International Film Festival had earlier introduced the New Zealander woman filmmaker Jane Campion as the jury president of the section.
The award-winning Iranian actress Hatami has served at several jury panels in International festivals so far such as the 50th edition of Golden Orange International Film Festival in Turkey.
Born in 1972 in Tehran, she made her professional entry into cinema with Dariush Mehrjui's film Leila (1998) as the title character.
Hatami who has worked with some of the most celebrated Iranian directors, has been paid tribute in a number of festivals and received several international awards.
She also starred as the leading actress in Asghar Farhadi’s Academy Award winning movie A Separation.
Leila Hatami was lauded at the 47th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival for her role in the film The Last Step directed by her husband Ali Mosaffa.
The Best Actress Award of this year’s renowned European festival went to Leila Hatami whom many will recognize from last year's Oscar winning Foreign Film A Separation.
The celebrated Iranian actress was also announced the 2012 Grand Prix winner during the awards ceremony at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival.
Hatami who is fluent in French appeared on the stage at the closing ceremony during the 65th Annual Cannes Film Festival to dedicate this year’s Grand Prix to the Italian director Matteo Garrone for his movie Reality.
Eminent auteur Abbas Kiarostami is another Iranian cineaste at the year’s Cannes film festival that will preside over Cinéfondation and Short Films jury.
Kiarostami is to head the five-member jury including Joachim Trier (Belgium), Noamie Lvovsky (France), Mahmat Saleh Haroun (Chad), and Daniela Thomas (Brazil).
The 67th annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from May14 to 25, 2014 in the southern France resort town.
