Iranian skiers outperform competitors in the intl. Alpine and Cross-country ski event held in Tehran. The 2nd round of the 11th International Skiing League has ended in Tehran’s Shemshak Ski Resort northeast of the capital in the Alborz Mountain range. The competition is supervised by the International Ski Federation (FIS), top skiers from 10 countries such as Greece, Turkey and Latvia and 30 domestic skiers have entered the competition. This international ski event is also one of the competitions where countries are try to qualify their best skiers for the 2014 Winter Olympics, or the 22nd Winter Olympics scheduled to take place from February 7th to 14th 2014 in Sochi, Russia. Mohammad Kia Darbandsari and Hossein Saveh-Shemshaki have already been chosen by the Iranian Ski Federation to represent the country in Sochi. The other 3 skiers who will represent Iran will be named on January 21st. At that time Iranian Ski Federation will register these names with International Olympic Committee (IOC). On the final day of the event Latvia won gold in the giant slalom event with silver and bronze going to Iran, while Iran dominated and won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the cross-country skiing.
