Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has hailed the Iranian nation’s steadfastness in defending their religious and Islamic values.
Rouhani made the remarks at a cabinet meeting in Tehran on Sunday, marking the fourth anniversary of a mass rally in Iran, which ended post-election riots back in 2009.
The Iranian president said, “The people reacted when they felt that their religious beliefs and values were offended.”
Rouhani added that people realized some foreign powers were determined to meddle in the country’s affairs.
He also said that the nation used rallies of December 30, dubbed the Day of Insight, to show their respect for the Islamic sanctities and the Islamic Revolution.
On December 30, 2009, millions of demonstrators took to streets across the Islamic Republic to condemn anti-government protests, rioting, and claims of vote fraud -- allegations ruled out by the country's legislative and election officials.
