A political commentator says the “severe” influence exerted by the Israeli lobby on the US administration over the past century has taken away the country’s “sovereignty,” Press TV reports.
In a Saturday interview with Press TV, Scott Rickard, a former US intelligence linguist, described the Israeli lobby as “one of many organizations” that have been affecting Washington's domestic and foreign affairs “well over a century.”
Rickard further said, “The Zionist Movement” has started exercising its influence on the US administration in political, financial, educational and religious areas since the 1800s, “driving, what I would consider, a non-sovereign type of foreign affairs with a lot of different nations around the world.”
The analyst pointed to US 'aggressive' policies in Libya and Syria and added, “These are all driven by not American interests but interests that are coming out of the region, specifically Israel.”
The analyst also described Washington’s stance on the Palestinian issue as “embarrassing.”
“The amount of sanctions that have been imposed on Israel have been minimal and at the same time the amount of UN resolutions that have come up against Israel have been quite a few and have always been vetoed by the Americans because of the Zionist influence on the American State Department,” he said.
The Israel lobby is a diverse coalition of individuals and groups that seek to influence the foreign policy of the United States in support of the Israeli regime. Commentators in the US have asserted that the lobby has undue or pervasive influence over US foreign policy in the Middle East.
