Syrian President Bashar Assad, left, meets with former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark, in Damascus, Syria.

Former US Attorney General and human rights lawyer Ramsey Clark has warned against American “militarism because it’s the greatest threat to life on the planet.” Clark, who recently visited Syria along with an anti-war delegation from the US, made the remarks in an exclusive interview with Press TV on Monday. The delegation planned to counter US war propaganda that has demonized the Syrian government. Clark also slammed US military threats against Syria, saying the United States has no interest in the Middle East except for further domination in the region. He added that the US war on Iraq, which was “one of the great crimes of history,” resulted in the suffering of millions of Iraqis. “It’s been hell for the people of Iraq ever since.” Last week, Clark attended a conference in Lebanon’s capital, Beirut to show his support for the Syrian people and his opposition to US military intervention in Syria and around the world. The United States accused the Syrian government of using chemical weapons in an attack near Damascus on August 21. Damascus, however, denied the allegation. An agreement between the US and Russia to put Syria’s chemical weapons under international control has for now cooled off the war rhetoric in the region. AHT/AGB
