A work by Iranian artist Parviz Tanavoli

A number of art pieces created by the Iranian artists have gone under the hammer during an auction held in the Iranian capital, Tehran, Press TV has reported. Some 92 works of art including paintings, sculptures and photos have been showcased at the second Tehran art auction on June 29. The auction displayed the works created by both veteran and young Iranian artists in contemporary arts. The late Iranian painter and poet Sohrab Sepehri’s several works from his collection titled The Tree Trunk were sold and one of them got the top offer at about 230,000 dollars. Some works created by the internationally renowned sculptor Parviz Tanavoli were also presented at the auction and came in the second place. Tanavoli is an Iranian sculptor, painter, scholar and art collector whose works have been showcased and auctioned around the world. Tanavoli who has been influenced heavily by Iran’s history and culture is one of the founders of the ‘Saqqakhaneh School’. Meanwhile, some of the art works were offered at the auction to raise fund for people with special diseases. Seyyed Mohammad Ahsaei, Hossein Zenderoudi, Reza Derakhshani, Kourosh Shishegaran, Masoud Arabshahi and Wahed Khakdan were among the artists whose works went under the hammer at this year’s Tehran art auction. Renowned Iranian actor Reza Kianian was in charge of the hammer at the event. The 2013 Tehran contemporary art auction could fetch over 2.5 million dollars. FGP/FGP
